Advice for fresh grads after NYSC looking for jobs -subscribe to job boards like hot Nigeriajobs, indeed Nigeria, jobberman, LinkedIn, check your email every morning. -start practising job tests (SHL, GMAT etc free resources online) -if your field has some important professional exams and you are capable of funding it, enrol -polish your communication skills -avoid negative people that will tell you you can never get jobs or getting jobs in a particular place is hard -identify 3-5 successful people in your field and follow them on social media or LinkedIn -apply aggressively for jobs -network, stay close to friends from school in similar situation, and keep in touch with seniors who are now working -be close to LinkedIn, read people’s profiles and apply directly there -join @Opportunityrm WhatsApp channel for daily updates for scholarships, graduate trainee programs and real jobs, will drop usernames of pages to follow on X (Twitter) under this post -learn basic Excel, Microsoft 365 and get useful skills in your field -prioritize graduate trainee programs on company websites -treat job hunting like full time work -don’t compare yourself with others who already have jobs -invest in yourself instead of betting or quick schemes that won’t last -don’t feel too big to ask for information from people ahead of you -your best chance is often through internships, don’t overlook them -never pay any money to get a job or for training if you are not ready to lose it - the best time to look for job is when you’re not desperate -watch out for fake jobs promising high pay with no experience, giving you 8hrs task as interview -apply directly on company career pages instead of random whatsapp or telegram links -filter jobs on linkedin and jobberman by location, experience level and date posted -check if the company has real website and linkedin page before applying

LinkedIn works when you treat it like a networking room. Here’s a 6 step guide to make it work for you: 1. Ditch the static CV. Change your headline from a boring job title to a value statement. Instead of "Social Media Manager," try: “Content Strategist | Helping fintechs & banks turn ideas into high engagement content.” Write your About section like you're talking over coffee. 2. Post real stuff. Share short work stories, quick lessons, or simple questions. Drop thoughtful comments on other people's posts instead of just emojis. Algorithm reward conversation. Consistency > perfection. 3. Humanize your outreach. Skip the generic connection requests, don’t skip the “add a note”. Comment on their posts first so they recognize your name. When you DM, mention something specific they wrote or talk about their current job. Real conversations build real networks. 4. Maximize the free features. Turn on "Open to Work" (visibly or just for recruiters). Pin your best projects, case studies, or top performing posts to your Featured section. Make it easy for decision makers to see your value. 5. Niche down hard. Pick maximum 2 roles and 1-2 industries (e.g., *AI/ML Engineer for Hospitality* or *Sales for Renewable Energy*). Make every post speak directly to recruiters in that exact space. The tighter the focus, the faster you get hunted. 6. Use Boolean search. Stop scrolling aimlessly. Cut through the noise with smart search strings like: *(“content strategist” OR “social media manager”) AND (fintech OR banking)*. Set alerts, follow target companies, and DM the hiring manager directly after you apply. Treat LinkedIn like a walking portfolio, not a digital cabinet.
