Diplopia varies according to which muscles are defective. It can be horizontal, vertical, tilted or all three, and it’s truly awful. Imagine this while waiting for a new diagnosis or prism. However temporary, it makes a huge difference to the patient to be offered a solution.

@drdamoeyes Using an Optishield on a child’s own glasses assists in assuring that it is not the occluding glasses themselves that the child is objecting to. Young patients with special educational needs and disabilities have taken to the frosted Optishield in preference to occluding glasses.

Testing vision in a baby: If a baby objects to having one eye occluded, that could represent poorer sight in the opposite eye. Question for you: what if they object to either eye being occluded?

@orthoptistroi Thank you for responding. We have had a lot of success with the Optishield in paediatric vision testing. I notice that you are using a frosted occluder in your image. The frosted Optishield is a less bulky alternative to over-glasses for aided VA testing optishield.co.uk

@Optishield1 Hello, screening programmes are there to detect amblyopia. If the child has already been prescribed glasses they will have vision assessed aided and unaided.

Vision screening of children is designed to detect reduced vision in one or both eyes. It should be carried out on 4-5 year olds, to treat when most effective. Vision will be assessed by either an orthoptist or a healthcare worker trained by an orthoptist #WOD2023
