It is blowing my mind how many people don’t seem able to grasp that oil & gas in the North Sea is not “ours” but was sold off to private companies who will trade it on the international market like any other fuel.
We don’t get any kind of privileged access to this fuel.

Nobody agrees on who built them or what they were for.

They are called Erdstall tunnels. Most are barely wide enough for one person to crawl through.
They connect to churches, cemeteries and medieval buildings, though some researchers argue the tunnels predate the structures above them.
Some are carved through solid rock. Others are reinforced with stone lining that has survived centuries of groundwater erosion.
Over 700 have been documented in Bavaria alone. More keep appearing whenever construction crews dig foundations or farmers plough new ground. Many are dated to the medieval period but no written record from any era explains why they were built or what they were used for.
If over a thousand tunnels were carved beneath an entire region and not a single document from any century explains why, what were they for?
