@JWhitebread1 I was imitating a Canadian's accent. I had no idea that he was getting angry. He finally said, "How would you like it if I talked like this <insert crazy fake Texan accent >?!?!" To his shock, I laughed. It was hilarious! Is this just an American thing?

Okay, I think I need to explain something to any Japanese listeners. In American culture, very close friends often express affection through a practice we call "giving grief" or less delicately, "bustin' balls." We insult each other, make inappropriate comments at the other's expense, often at very inappropriate times, etc. It is frankly, one of the surest signs of trust and closeness between equals. We wouldn't do this with someone who WASN'T a very close friend and confidant. You see this more amongst men, and more in informal situations. Admittedly, you don't see it much in professional settings, and it almost never appears in international diplomacy, BUT, Trump is built different. I have no doubt, that's how Trump meant it. It's too on the nose to be anything else. He's trying to say, we respect you and admire you greatly, and we can banter like this, because we are equals. The correct response is to utterly ROAST or insult your friend back in response. This can even evolve into what is called a "game of dozens" which is a friendly contest to see you can insult their friend with the best, most scathing insult. I think I will stop before I have to explain "Your Momma" jokes, but I think you can get the gist. Please feel free to utterly destroy America with a clever insult in response.

‘Healthcare isn’t a consumable good.’ Right… except it requires labor, time, equipment, drugs, facilities, and expertise. All scarce. All produced. All consumable. You don’t solve scarcity by denying it exists. You just shift the cost from the patient to someone else by force. And calling it ‘hostage taking’ flips reality. The only people not using force are the ones offering care in exchange for payment. The ones demanding it without consent are.

Here is a Russian joke about food shortage, told to me BY a Russian Jew. Everyone is standing in line at the butcher shop, because there is a rumor of meat. After they'd been waiting in line for about an hour, an official comes out and shouts, "There is not enough meat for everyone. All the Jews must go home." So, moaning and sad, all the Jews head home. After another hour of waiting, the official comes out again and shouts, "There is STILL not enough meat. Everyone who is not a Party member must go home." All the non-Party members go home, cursing their luck. After yet ANOTHER hour of waiting, the official comes out one last time and shouts, "Well, there isn't any meat at all really. Everyone go home." So Ivan turns to Yuri and says, "See? This is how it always is. The Jews get all the breaks."

@LogannGames If this shit ever goes live, you'll be the cause of a lot of good guy's deaths. But you'll probably survive, because they'll die protecting you. So every time you see your buddies, imagine trying to explain to their family that they died because you wouldn't get off the couch.

@FrothyFriar As a rabid book reader there were a number of things that annoyed me as well. I personally thought the movies lacked subtlety.

@Liamjsm They’re celebrating higher pay in a league that still isn’t self-sustaining. That’s not proof unions ‘work.’ It’s proof someone else is footing the bill. If the product can’t support the wages on its own, the money has to come from somewhere else.

You get what you incentivize for. Right now there is zero incentive to build an audience because followers don’t matter. Right now there is zero incentive to add your thoughts to a topic because “first to post” and dedup means first post gets the lion share. Huge incentive to automate and be “first to post” exhausting for human creators and encouraging use of AI. Zero incentive to post on your niche because the only thing that matters seems to be viral slop. X used to be known for thinkers. Now it’s automated news aggregators that gets the views with zero thoughts. Articles seem to get traction, but are a poor substitute for the pulse of seeing posts from those you follow all chiming in on one topic. Network effects dead. There is definitely some kind of suppression going on, probably related to the block signal. I’ve run multiple tests with accounts my size, posting identical content down to the minute, and consistently get 5 to 1 to 10 to 1 suppression.

I wanna see a live action remake of Gunsmith Cats, only it has to be really good and not woke.

@ShamashAran @KermitGrenoille @QuixotesDonkey It's a fun time. An Americana 80s buddy-action-movie as made by Japanese animators. Pretty sure it's still available on Youtube. My tinfoil-hat suspects the manga may actually be responsible for CZ rereleasing the short rail as the 'Legend' later this year.

The Spanish arrival absolutely means the destruction of the Mayans that destroyed his village, and a war on the foul gods who demanded murder. But Garra Jaguar lived in a village in the jungle. The Spanish conquest would have little or no effect on such a village for decades, if ever. Garra Jaguar could live out his life in peace. Over time, his descendents would convert (or be converted) to Christianity. Would there be oppression under the Spanish? Absolutely. But not as vile as under the cruel city-states that ruled before.
King Targaryen 🐉@KingTargaryenn

Not sure if I agree or not, but this is an interesting idea I hadn't thought of. Tolkien certainly had a lot of raw talent, mostly in the form of creativity and extreme intelligence. Whether LOTR would have been better or worse for more polish would have depended on what form that polish took. Certainly, a slick, sophisticated style wouldn't have suited. But he also might well have learned to be more himself, better at the simple, rusticated style that made the story flow again. I don't know. I think we need to allow great authors, and other great artists, to be human, to have mistakes in their work. If we try to pretend they are flawless, we are telling them that we need them to be flawless. And we don't. We just need them to write.

I’m compiling together a list of which Open Source Operating Systems (Linux, BSD, etc.) do (or do not) plan to comply with new Age Verification laws. I need to track these for the purpose of reporting on the story, and I figured others would find having a list handy as well. If you’d like to contribute, feel free. Will be adding to the list as more systems are confirmed as either implementing or opposing Age Verification. github.com/BryanLunduke/D…
