January 21, 1933 State Treasurer Holman fires back at Governor Meier over Oregon's finances, denying crisis and accusing him of political grandstanding to embarrass the treasurer's office.

January 20, 1933 The @Oregonian launches a relief effort to help freezing unemployed families in Portland and Multnomah County who stocked wood last summer but now lack the means to move fuel to their homes.

January 19, 1933 About 2,000 men tried to shove their way into the unemployment office in Portland, which has a capacity of 100. It took a dozen police officers to restore order. The men were waiting for snow shoveling jobs.
