@DaveBuzan This and “Capricorn One” are my favorite Hyams’ films. So much fun, he was always out to entertain, never got too complicated with it.

"Outland" was released on this day in 1981. Hugely entertaining (and hugely underrated) space western from writer/director Peter Hyams. Highlights: Fantastic performance by Sean Connery; incredible production design by Philip Harison; exciting Jerry Goldsmith score. While "Outland" had a clever and unique sci-fi premise ("High Noon in space"), the film failed to connect with audiences upon release. It later became a huge success on cable and home video. Peter Hyams made some terrific films in his career, but "Outland" is my favorite.
