OMFES reminds you FROZEN DOESN’T MEAN SAFE. Ice conditions are unpredictable. Even if a surface looks frozen, thickness can vary, especially near moving water or in warmer temperatures. Never assume the ice can support weight. Don’t put yourself at risk this March Break.

OMFES assisted in the rescue of an injured snowmobiler today on Lake Simcoe. Thank you to Ornge Air Ambulance, Simcoe County Paramedics, and the OPP for their coordinated response. This incident is an important reminder to use caution when operating snowmobiles on frozen lakes.

OMFES has responded to several incidents recently caused by improperly disposed wood‑stove ashes. Keep your home safe: Make sure ashes are fully cooled before removal. Use a metal container. Store outside, away from anything combustible. Never keep ash containers indoors.
