Triton Jeju is around the corner and I always have mixed feelings about going over there. I know I’m about to diabolically destroy my sleep, put my physical health on hold, and blow up my adrenal system. It’ll take weeks to feel normal again. Even after the event I’ll still be dealing with emotional and physical fatigue… dopamine withdrawal included. Maybe we’re all a little sick for doing it. At this stage of my life, I don’t need to anymore. But there’s something about walking down that hallway, completely exhausted, knowing you have to pull every last mental and physical resource out of yourself to show up and close a final table. You sit down against some of the greatest talent the game has ever seen, and it’s on you. When it's all on the line do you still have what it takes? If you fuck it up, it’s yours to own. Me vs. Me. My non-poker friends often ask why I still do it. That’s the answer.

@tombos21 If you do it 1 million times it doesn't matter what you do but if you have one shot at cashing out something reasonable. I would do what I just said.

Gambling puzzle: A casino matches your deposit as a bonus. They require you to wager 30x your deposit before you can withdraw the bonus. Gambler 1 wants to minimize their bust rate. So they play a low-variance game with 97% return to player (RTP). Gambler 2 wants to maximize their variance. So they play an extremely high-variance game with 97% RTP. Curiously, Gambler #2 has a MUCH higher expected value than #1, despite having the same RTP and a higher chance of busting. In fact, if the variance is high enough, gambler #2 can theoretically have a positive expected value, despite playing a losing game! How is this possible?

"UTG v BB 50bb: solver basically halves the money it puts in on monotone flops (bet volume goes from 2.6 → 1.3). That’s a huge “chill out” signal." - Clemen Deng, new GTO LAB Coach in his first coaching video Monotone Flop Strategy in SRP

In 26 days, you either sharpen your tournament fundamentals or keep studying “randomly.” Nick’s structured MTT plan breaks down the exact spots strong regs spend the most time on: • cEV decisions at 100bb → 15bb and how ranges actually shift • Short-stack opens and reshoves that quietly print • ICM and bubble pressure spots most players misplay • C-betting and 3-bet pots where small mistakes add up fast Daily drills, clear themes.

In POTD #172 I wrote about "bluffing linearly" on the river. A premium subscriber asked what I meant about that and I wrote a whole post POTD #177. Explaining the concept. "The concept behind bluffing linearly goes like this. On the river, if you have a bunch of hands with values from 1-100 where 100 is the nuts and 1 is the nut low, you start bluffing all your 1s, then your 2s, then your 3s, etc., until you hit the appropriate bluffing frequency. The reason for this is in part because if you have a 3, you want to make sure a 4 folds, but if you have a 5, you don’t care if a 4 folds, so you’d rather bluff with a 3 than a 5." The HH was a relatively simple one 2024 WSOP Paradise Event #9 WSOP Super Main Event Day 1A (5k/10k/10k) It folds to reg in the SB (500k) who raises to 45k, I (300k) have K♦️5♦️ in the BB and call. Flop (100k) A♣️8♣️4♦️: He bets 25k, I call. Turn (150k) Q♦️: He checks, I check. River (150k) 6♣️: He checks, I check and win with K5 high. I should have bluffed the river and as I do everyday I posted a video talking about the sims I ran for premium subscribers. That video is embedded below, I hope you enjoy it.
