Good day, Thank you for reaching out and sharing your experience, vwe understand how frustrating this can be. Aircraft are not offloading passengers at Gamadulas, what you’re likely experiencing is remote stand parking. During busy periods, aircraft may be parked away from the terminal due to stand availability, and passengers are then transported to the terminal by bus. This can add to the overall time from landing to entering the terminal. Regarding the row-by-row disembarkation, this is an airline-controlled process often used to manage passenger flow safely, though we do understand it may feel slower. We are continuously working with airlines, including @FlySafair, to improve turnaround times and the overall passenger experience, especially during peak periods. We appreciate your patience and feedback. NK

@ortambo_int Why are planes now dropping people off at Gamadulas instead of the airport. planes land 20 Min before time but pax only get into the airport after an hour. @FlySafair row by row offloading is also not helping🤦

Good evening CJM, Thank you for your feedback, and we’re sorry for the frustration caused by the long queues this evening. Passenger processing at passport control is managed by the Department of Home Affairs, however, we work closely with them to monitor peak periods and support improved flow where possible. We’ve shared your concerns with the relevant teams for urgent attention. At peak arrival times, especially with multiple international flights landing close together, queues can unfortunately build up. That said, this is not the experience we want for our passengers. We appreciate you raising this with us and remain committed to improving the overall passenger journey at the airport. NK

@ChrisHatt11 @Airports_ZA Hi Chris, Thank you for flagging this. A burst pipe in the domestic arrivals ablution facilities caused water spillage in the baggage area. The issue has since been resolved, and the area has been cleaned. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused. LP

Jo'burg Metro Police Department - JMPD
TRAFFIC ADVISORY FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 19 APRIL 2026 GAS TANKER ON FIRE ON THE N12 COMARO ROAD: URGENT ROAD CLOSURE The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) wishes to advise motorists of a major incident on the N12 Highway in the Bassonia area. A gas tanker has caught fire on the N12 West just before the Comaro Road off-ramp. Due to the volatile nature of the fire and the risk of explosion, all lanes in both directions (Eastbound and Westbound) will be closed to traffic. Emergency services are currently on the scene. Firefighting operations are underway. The area remains highly hazardous. The closure is expected to last for several hours to allow firefighting, cooling of the tanker, and subsequent mop-up operations. Motorists are urged to avoid the area entirely and follow the designated diversion points: * N12 Westbound (Heading toward Soweto): Traffic will be diverted at the R59 Reading Interchange. * N12 Eastbound (Heading toward Alberton): Traffic will be diverted at Kliprivier Drive. To bypass the incident, consider using these alternative routes: 1. M1 North/South via the Booysens area. 2. R59 through Alberton. 3. Kliprivier Drive as a local bypass through the Southern Suburbs. Hi Ipeleng, We’re really sorry to hear about your experience, we understand how frustrating this must be. This is not the standard we strive for, and we take concerns like this seriously. Baggage handling involves multiple partners, but we’re here to help where we can. Please report the matter to your airline’s baggage services team and the South African Police Service if you haven’t already. You’re also welcome to send us a DM with your flight details, date of travel and contact information so we can assist in escalating this with the relevant teams. LP

@ortambo_int hi. The porters dressed in orange and black, what is their role at the airport? I could clearly see some dodgy ones having negotiations with foreign travelers.

Good day, thank you for your feedback. Please note that baggage screening procedures and restrictions on certain items are governed by aviation security regulations and are implemented by relevant authorities and airline partners, not the airport alone. Requirements such as baggage wrapping at the airport may be influenced by security protocols and airline policies. Items such as magnets may be flagged during screening depending on their composition or how they appear on scanning equipment, which may result in additional checks. This is done in the interest of safety and compliance. We understand your concerns regarding consistency and service experience. Your feedback has been noted and will be shared with the relevant stakeholders to ensure improved clarity and customer experience. Thank you for engaging with us. NK

3) The problem - is it the employment of unqualified staff? Is it the lack of knowledge regarding what's allowed in our bags and what is not? @Airports_ZA - any comment?

@ortambo_int @ORTamboAirport 1) My recent experience at the International check in counter at or Tambo airport: wrapped at home suitcases are not allowed, wrapping must be done at the airport. Fridge magnets in the check in luggage for presents were an issue -took a few minutes
