Poor wee red hit by a speeding car this morning. Hard enough trying to keep Reds safe from grey incursions but to lose reds in this way is heartbreaking 😢

💔UPDATE💔🐿️ It’s with great sadness to reveal that the healthy population of red squirrels at Rutter Falls near Appleby have been wiped out by the pox greys carry and spread 😭😢 I was informed this afternoon #nature #redsquirrel I’m devastated for Jim who lives there and needless to say the reds. I can’t believe how quickly the reds have been wiped out. I’m gutted but bloody angry too that more isn’t done to inform the wider public by big charities, local authorities and government about a legally protected, iconic and national favourite species! 💔😢🐿️ When will folk realise far and wide such invasive species can be devastating to our habitats and ecosystems??? 🤬🤬
