Telegram CEO attacks WhatsApp over data privacy risks
Telegram CEO Pavel Durov (@durov) has sharply criticized WhatsApp’s encryption model.
He claims most private messages end up in plain text cloud backups. Durov stated that backups stored on Apple and Google servers are 'not E2E-encrypted.'
According to him, backup encryption is optional and rarely used by users. Even encrypted backups can be exposed if chat counterparts do not secure theirs.
He also raised concerns about metadata collection and third party disclosures.
