While we’re at it, now is also a great time to hold companies accountable for cleaning up after themselves instead of leaving taxpayers to foot the bill for plugging abandoned wells.

Congress set the stage for some important and long-overdue reforms to the way we lease public lands for oil and gas development, but it’s up to our federal land management agencies to make those changes final.

There’s no good reason to sell oil and gas leases over the counter for $1.50 an acre, or let private investors pick and choose which of our public lands should be auctioned for development. wyomingpublicmedia.org/natural-resour…
