The speed beeper thing in European cars tells you everything about Europe. Every new car is legally required to beep at you when you exceed the limit. You can disable it, but it resets every single time you start the car, so you have to opt out of the nanny over and over forever. This is a continent that fundamentally does not trust you to make a single decision about your own life. And the people here are totally fine with it.

Okay, since you asked, here’s my American opinion. Soccer will never be as popular in America as football for 3 reasons: 1. The Fake Injuries Players are incentivized to flop because the other team is more likely to get a penalty. In football, it is the opposite. If a player has a real injury, play toughs it out and plays through it, it is seen as heroic. Americans like toughness and grit. 2. Chance Goals Many goals are scored by chance as opposed to skill. The chaos at the net when the ball is near is remarkable. Defenders blocking the goalie’s line of sight. The ball bouncing and ricocheting off of random body parts often determines if the ball goes in the net or out of bounds. In football, there are some elements of chance, but because players are allowed to use their hands, the points are primarily scored based on skill. Less is left to chance. Americans like control. 3. Low Scoring In football, it is still challenging to score, but it happens much more often. Also, every play has a chance for gratification and excitement: a first down, a big catch, a big hit, a sack, an interception, etc American like constant excitement.

@ListerLawrence They do have a buffer because you cannot truly let it hit 0% or you will cause permanent degradation on the battery. It varies by manufacturer but you can limp your way to a charger or a safe place to call assistance.

I’m not an EV hater, but the problem with EV’s that no one talks about is: When the range gets to 0 in an EV the car just stops. In some cases they can’t even be pushed… When the range gets to 0 in a Petrol or Diesel car, you have a built in grace period of 30-40 miles that isn’t shown on the car’s trip computer. Thus range anxiety doesn’t exist in an ICE vehicle. Why don’t EV’s do that?

Essa já é a Copa mais desinteressante da história. Pela primeira vez eu passo a semana inteira de Copa sem vontade de assistir um jogo sequer. A pior merda foi botarem esse tanto de seleção aleatória. Acabaram com a 1ª fase da Copa, justamente a fase mais legal.
