ESPN Sources: Offensive Player of the Year and Super-Bowl champion Jaxon Smith-Njigba reached agreement with the Seattle Seahawks on a four-year, $168.6 million contract extension that now makes him the highest-paid WR in NFL history. The deal averages $42.15 million per year, and includes over $120 million guaranteed, both setting records for any wide receiver. The deal was confirmed by @WINSportsGroup.

The 13 seeds this year ranged from 87 to 151 in KenPom. A decade ago, the worst 13 seed was 94.
That’s a really meaningful difference and it comes down to realignment and auto bids bumping weak teams into 11 and 12 seeds.

Not only are there just four double-digit seeds left, not only did all favorites win yesterday, the games haven’t been particularly close. Per ESPN Research, the average margin of victory in the first round was 17.4 points, the highest since the tournament expanded in 1985.

@brianros1 It sucks, especially for smaller schools, but it’s the reality now. I understand they can’t control who they can schedule, but it is what it is. If they were in a different conference or played better teams, they wouldn’t have had that record and never made the tournament

@brianros1 No doubt about that. This is a major byproduct of the NIL era. I’ve lost all faith in a Cinderella going forward. A team might win one early, but it’s unlikely to get to elite 8 when you have teams are spending on the best players. Records don’t mean as much as they once did.

@brianros1 They used to be spread across the NCAA. Now after a good season at a mid major, they move to the major conferences and teams. It’s a different sport now than it was 10-15+ years ago.

@brianros1 It’s not supposed to be a fair system in that sense. They are a mid major for a reason. Win your conference and you’re in automatically. You don’t? You’re on the bubble and likely shouldn’t be in. With the way NIL is now, the best players are all concentrated now
