Universal free breakfast. More teachers in our classrooms. Supporting our kids' mental health. My budget continues these critical investments in our next generation of leaders and ensures they have the tools they need to succeed.
Pennsylvania Governor's Office@PAGovOffice

224 million free breakfasts served. 3,000 more students enrolled. @GovernorShapiro’s budget proposal will build on that progress and make sure PA continues to be a leader as one of top states for public education.

Fine, I’ll say it: This slack-jawed puff piece of Dauphin County’s famously problematic coroner is the worst news story I’ve ever read

@MikefromYork Don't know anything about that. I do know that newspaper owners gave away content for free online for years and then never corrected the business model when they predictably lost subscribers and then advertisers. Then they jumped ship and sold to predatory venture capitalists.

@OverSharinErin Erin, I agree that local newspapers have been ruined but I blame either the Congress or the Federal Trade Commission which no longer enforces denial of approval for newspaper mergers that will decrease competition. York City is a prime example of this.

The Pa. Senate has preemptively waived a rule banning votes after 11 p.m., and now is holding a committee meeting on an omninus constitional amendment including voter ID and language that "the policy of Pa. is to protect the life of every unborn child from conception to birth."

@OverSharinErin @StephenJ_Caruso Actual language of the amendment is to add this to the constitution - "the policy of Pa. is to protect the life of every unborn child from conception to birth." So not a direct ban, but certainly sets the stage, also has legal implications from what I’ve read

Democrats say that the amendment will ban abortion. That's not true, but advocates say that the amendment will block state courts from protecting abortion access, and provide constitutional cover for bans on contraceptives and other reproductive care. spotlightpa.org/news/2022/06/r…

Hey Senate Republicans! Running a constitutional amendment to ban abortion after 10:30pm doesn't mean no one will notice. People will notice and they will know you were too cowardly to do it in the light of day.

As long as I am governor, I vow to protect abortion access and reproductive health care in Pennsylvania   But we're approaching a critical election cycle.   I cannot stress enough how important it is to vote. Elections matter.

Sandy Hook was devastating because kids died brutally. Uvalde is devastating because kids died brutally and we're all collectively realizing that we... just let it happen again.

For all its very real problems, one shouldn’t lose sight of the fact that the contemporary United States of America is one of the best places to live in all of human history and there’s a reason tons of people of all kinds from all around the world clamor to move here.

With funding from @POTUS' American Rescue Plan, today @USDOL announced the initial award of over $20 million in grant funding to promote equitable access to state unemployment insurance systems. More on this round of these first-of-their-kind grants: dol.gov/newsroom/relea…
Governor Josh Shapiro@GovernorShapiro

.@SecMartyWalsh gave me a call today to let me know $6.8 million is on the way to Pennsylvania to help promote equitable access to our state unemployment compensation system. Unemployment compensation is a lifeline. It’s critical that all Pennsylvanians who need it have access.
