There’s a layer deeper than the "story," Jasmine. It’s about institutional preservation and expansion. Across the West, govt and quasi-govt bodies are dominated by a specific ideological class — ie to the left. They hold the reins de facto and, increasingly, de jure. ‘Misinformation’ is about de jure control. Human nature is simple: No one gives up power voluntarily. These institutions can only preserve and expand their power if they control the language. Why? Because language is the medium through which an institution entrenches itself. It’s how it both births and secures its existence, via legislation or regulation, along with access to the public purse. Having worked in law, I’ve seen this firsthand. Govt-driven power is entirely linguistic. Media frames this as "stories," but it’s actually the administrative machinery protecting its own footprint. In a regulatory context, if an institution can legally define a challenge to its narrative as "misinformation," it gains the power to act. It turns a subjective disagreement into a procedural violation, and that’s where it gains power. This is how the power becomes de jure. We’re moving from informal social pressure to formal legislative frameworks. These laws codify an institution’s ideological preferences into the letter of the law. Once it’s in the statutes, the institution’s survival is no longer up for debate; it is legally mandated, tax-funded, and structurally protected. Those who work for the entrenched institution, have now also entrenched themselves: all through the power of language.

Stone Age? At a time when you were still in caves searching for fire, we were inscribing human rights on the Cyrus Cylinder. We endured the storm of Alexander and the Mongol invasions and remained; because Iran is not just a country, it is a civilization.

"Is it not also the case that America has entered this aggression as a proxy for Israel, influenced and manipulated by that regime?... Is it not that Israel now aims to fight Iran to the last American soldier and the last American taxpayer dollar?... Is America First truly among the priorities of the US government today?"

Let me try: he’s arrogant, he’s responsible for terrible economic policies under Trudeau, he’s got some perverted ideology around the climate, which is most likely corruption-based, he’s riddled with conflicts of interest, he’s lied, he makes countless promises that he doesn’t keep, and he’s deeply connected with the global elite who are ever increasing their control over society and their wealth. Plenty of reasons to dislike @MarkJCarney
Sam G@ItsSamG

Most Conservatives don’t even know why they don’t like Mark Carney except that he plays for the team that Trudeau played for and therefore he sucks

@haugejostein @ar_mota1 Vietnam has an exceptional environment for entrepreneurialism. You can start building your restaurant or gym or bar before receiving a permit. Vietnam’s economy is rocking precisely because it is NOT centrally planned.

$11 - $27 billion in long-term economic benefits. Costs $100B. She thinks this is an argument that it *should* be completed. This is why things are going poorly.
THudson@THudson59618056

@Smileyyeg 1. Studies estimate $11–$27 billion in long-term economic benefits. 2. Short and Medium term Job creation. 3. Big infrastructure tends to attract private investment. 4. Reduced congestion = cost savings, yes that includes Road Maintenance.

This is the correct (and ONLY) perspective if you want a free society with a reasonable cost of living, and not creeping authoritarianism with high inflation (which is what we’ve had in Canada for the past 10 years):
Peter McCaffrey@peteremcc

Some investments make a return, some don't. But that's the wrong question. The question should be whether we use taxpayers' money to gamble on figuring out which makes sense, or let entrepreneurs figure it out by risking their own money. That's communism versus capitalism.
