Sunrise on Glastonbury Tor this morning. A beautiful start to the day and plenty of people made the climb and were rewarded with a stunning sky.

The Netherlands has achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the first country in the world to completely eliminate stray dogs without euthanasia. The government implemented strict animal welfare laws, mandatory pet registration, heavy fines for abandonment, and nationwide sterilisation drives. Shelters worked closely with rescue teams to ensure every stray dog was rehabilitated and placed in a loving home. Public awareness campaigns encouraged adoption over buying, helping transform the country’s approach to animal care. This compassionate, coordinated effort resulted in every dog finding a safe, permanent home — setting a global benchmark for humane animal welfare.

Matilda. Nov 2012 - Sept 11, 2025. After losing the ability to walk yesterday, enough was enough. M went peacefully, munching chocolate, and being told she was the best and loved. Scrabble was here and I think understood. It's been a privilege 💛

I just sent myself an email (I do this in order to file things of interest to me, or ideas). It went straight to the 'Deleted' folder. My email account decided to delete one of my thoughts. I am affronted and outraged.

Don't blame the aid workers for the lack of food and aid. They should be ensured safety in delivering vital supplies, not risk of injury or death. What the **** is wrong with humanity? news.un.org/en/story/2025/…

Israel is cleaning up its crime scenes in Rafah. There are people under this rubble. What buildings will remain roped off & entrance fees charged for people to come & see? Who will museumize this genocide? Will there be a roaming exhibition of bloodied shoes & clothes & photos?

When my husband died, because he was so famous and known for not being a believer, many people would come up to me-it still sometimes happens-and ask me if Carl changed at the end and converted to a belief in an afterlife. They also frequently ask me if I think I will see him again. Carl faced his death with unflagging courage and never sought refuge in illusions. The tragedy was that we knew we would never see each other again. I don't ever expect to be reunited with Carl. But, the great thing is that when we were together, for nearly twenty years, we lived with a vivid appreciation of how brief and precious life is. We never trivialized the meaning of death by pretending it was anything other than a final parting. Every single moment that we were alive and we were together was miraculous, not miraculous in the sense of inexplicable or supernatural. We knew we were beneficiaries of chance. . . . That pure chance could be so generous and so kind. . . . That we could find each other, as Carl wrote so beautifully in Cosmos, you know, in the vastness of space and the immensity of time. . . . That we could be together for twenty years. That is something which sustains me and it’s much more meaningful. . . . The way he treated me and the way I treated him, the way we took care of each other and our family, while he lived. That is so much more important than the idea I will see him someday. I don't think I'll ever see Carl again. But I saw him. We saw each other. We found each other in the cosmos, and that was wonderful. - Ann Druyan
