Teams draft 1st-rounders expecting franchise cornerstones.
But how often do they actually keep them?
I looked at every NFL 1st-round pick from 2000-2021.
% who signed a 2+ year second contract with their original drafting team:
OL: 50.0%
QB: 44.6%
Off-ball LB: 42.0%
TE: 40.0%
IDL: 37.8%
RB: 31.4%
CB: 30.7%
WR: 30.7%
EDGE: 30.3%
S: 28.6%
Another example of why offensive line investment has such a strong roster-building case.

@RyanPaganetti Yeah, excellent point. As if they've settled on getting the 2 or it's over.

@Own_TheOwnables I’ve moved around on this. As of now I view up 8 as preferred as teams down 8 generally play slower than they should (they are really down ~1.5 possessions in a way, as the 2 point attempt is only going to work 49.7% of the time).

One of the strangest decisions of the Super Bowl did not get enough attention.
Since the NFL moved the extra point back to the 15 in 2015, this situation had come up 40 times before: a team scored a 4th-quarter TD, with at least 1:00 left, to go from down 19 to down 13.
39 of those 40 teams went for two.
New England kicked here.
I don’t know of any win-probability framework that supports that decision.
They later got the ball back down 12. If they were down 11 instead, a field goal would still have kept the game alive. How much does that change the way you manage that drive?
