Over the course of 4 days earlier this spring, a team of Mass Oyster volunteers put over 37,000 pounds of recycled oyster shells from last summer to good use, filling over 350 mesh bags to provide habitat for oysters in Wellfleet Harbor! massoyster.org/blog/2023/5/28…

Dennis puts bags of oyster shells (cultch) into local waters during oyster spawning season, and once larvae have settled on the shells the cultch bags are brought to their hatchery. When the oysters are big enough, they are brought out to the Dennis recreational harvest area.
