This decade started terribly for me. I'd had to close my beloved second hand bookshop in 2009. In 2010 was working in customer service and making a pittance. The novel I'd been working on for five years kept being rejected again and again. I hated everyone. I was in a bad place.

I've written books before & I thought loved writing them. But here I am in the middle of writing & all I want to do is cry, scream, quit, drink. Is giving birth to book babies like giving birth to real babies, you only remember how shit it is way too late?

@jocaseau Stalking of Julia Gillard selling 1-2k per week = Aus Top 10 NF. Plenty of Aus books doing well at the moment.

@jocaseau depends on the book and genre. Debut Hannah Kent's Burial Rites has been selling 3-4k pbooks/wk = top 10.

@jocaseau a BookScan no. 1 sells 4-6k "per week" in a quiet wk. Inferno sold over 30k pbooks in 1 week a few wks ago + unknown ebooks.
