HOW LOSING 120K$ CHANGED MY ENTIRE LIFE IN CRYPTO I entered crypto in March 2024. I had around 10k$ savings from 3 years of my job. Within 15 days, mainly through $BRETT on base and $ANDY on eth, that 10k$ started exploding. 20k$…50k$…100k$… For someone coming from normal life, this kind of money movement changes your brain completely. I was glued to the screen 24/7. Taking screenshots. Watching charts every few minutes. Tracking wallets. Sleeping less. Thinking only about crypto. And during all that chaos, I ignored the most important thing: security. I heard about cold wallets many times. But I never took it seriously. I thought: “Nothing will happen to me.” Big mistake. I still don’t know exactly how I got hacked. Maybe my Gmail got compromised.Maybe wallet access got exposed somehow.Maybe something happened when I checked an Apple product at an Apple Store. Maybe something else entirely. To this day, I still don’t know. But one day everything changed. 120k$ gone. And I still remember that feeling. Not because I lost “paper profits.” Because I lost 3 years of my life savings due to my own lack of seriousness toward protection. I didn’t sleep properly for 3 days. Felt physically sick. That moment changed how I look at money forever. Most people in crypto only learn trading, narratives, memes, charts, entries Very few learn: wallet hygiene, operational security , risk compartmentalization, emotional recovery after destruction After the hack, I restarted again. From almost nothing. I still had around 5k$ left inside $TON ecosystem which I initially kept aside to buy $REDO in April 2024. Funny enough…that small remaining capital became the rebirth of everything I am today. Thanks to $ETH ecosystem, timing, Boysclub narratives, and obviously the bull market conditions, that 5k$ eventually became 4.4m$ in around 9 weeks. Of course I round-tripped a lot. Of course I made mistakes. But I still managed to pull out around 500k$–750k$ into real life. That’s another story for another post. Crypto taught me something important. Making money is hard.Protecting money is equally hard. And surviving emotionally after destruction might be the rarest skill of all. Now I split wallets aggressively. Cold wallets (@Tangem, @Trezor, @Ledger ) for long-term holdings. Separate wallets for trading. Separate wallets for testing. Separate wallets for public activity. Because one bad signature can destroy years of work. Most people only understand security after pain. I learned it the expensive way.
