One interesting element to me is that Trump believes Iran violated the MOU such as by firing on ships, but no one seems to have told him that Iran believes that the US violated the MOU by encouraging ships to take the southern route in the Strait (and undermining Iran's grip on it).

Iran kept the Houthis "for a rainy day" & has now activated their proxy. Sure, the Houthis have their own interests but they are still part of the 'Axis' & springing into action at this point in the war will drive up oil prices & pressure Trump. Phased approach has been effective
