Mr. Charles Ruzigye further added that, "We as a ministry, have a department of Martime administration, which is responsible for water safety in the country, and this department is the one coordinating the safety of transport on the water bodies. Through this department, the government has come up with the required inland water transport laws and the regulations are being drafted to tackle this problem. We have gone further as a country, to ensure that the problem is tackled at a national level, by collaborating with other government departments and agencies, including the private sector. So in an effort to have a collaborative effort government, we are coming up with a strategic plan, a strategic plan that will inform the way forward tackling this problem. This strategic plan is soon going to be launched, and it will detail the level of intervention. It will detail the level of collaboration and gate on the mobilization of resources to handle this problem that is causing death, big death in the country. So, as a department, we have engaged other relevant stakeholders in government. You can hear the fisheries ministry or Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Water, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Trade, through the agency of UNBS, which brings us the standards. And what we are doing is to make sure that the engagement is as broad as possible, because drowning is seen as a problem that is multisectoral and not only transport related. So we are looking at it from the drowning through vessels which actually gets the biggest figures of over 70% of these drowning cases are resulting from the ports. But also the other cases coming from other areas, in terms of swimming, in terms of floods, in terms of home accidents and all other water related incidences are also attributed to this problem. So we have a collaborated effort, and this strategy is going, we think, after launching it, will give a way to having this problem put to an arrest." @JackieOkao @Vandana75810056

With @PAFROWS_UG on board, policy direction is not only directed to road safety, but also to water transport. When the strategic plan is approved, @MoWT_Uganda is going to make efforts to mobilize sufficient resources as we shall have budgeted them #StopDrowningNow

Safe Transport and Survivors Support Uganda
Today is World Drowning Prevention Day !!! “Your Story Can Save a Life” Every drowning is a story cut short. In Uganda, too many lives especially children, fishers, and flood victims, are lost in silence. But drowning is preventable. This year, we break the silence. ✅ Share your story. ✅ Speak out on unsafe water transport. ✅ Demand barriers, life jackets & better enforcement. ✅ Teach water safety in your home, school & community. 🛟 Survived a drowning ? Lost a loved one? Witnessed a near-miss? 🎙️ Your voice could change minds, influence policies, and most importantly save lives. Let’s turn pain into power. Because when we speak up, we don’t just remember the lost , we protect the living. #SafeWatersUG #DrownFreeUG

Joined the Minister of Works Gen. Katumba Wanala as he launched the Community Road Safety Project. Approx 15 people die in Uganda everyday due to reckless driving. The 30km limit in designated areas is a welcome idea. Discipline is key if we are to avoid Road accidents in uganda
