Our statement on the passage of the 2024-2025 budget. Is it perfect? No. Do we still need a multi-year plan? Yes. Are we incredibly glad to see the @PaLegis acknowledge its constitutional duty to provide a quality, equitable education? YES.

The only reason to use such a bogus methodology is to back into a lower price tag. They want to artificially undercount poor kids and pass the buck to school districts and local taxpayers. It disingenuous and wrong, and House leaders and @GovernorShapiro should reject it.

The details get a little wonky, but here’s the TL,DR: Senate leaders are cynically trying to shave off $1.5 billion from what they owe inadequately funded, low-wealth school districts using an unprincipled and bogus methodology to undercount kids in poverty.

New: A debate over what poverty data decides which school districts get extra funding has emerged as a late point of partisan contention as policymakers negotiate a deal to end Pennsylvania's week+ old budget delay. Via @SpotlightPA spotlightpa.org/news/2024/07/e…

When they take the 1% of kids out of schools like this, what are they going to do for the 99% of kids that are going to be left behind in these buildings? (2/3)

"Private schools can pick and choose; public schools cannot--they must teach economically disadvantaged students, ELL students and students with disabilities. That requires funding that can’t be raised in districts that abound with low-income households" lancasteronline.com/opinion/editor…
