We know Pennsylvania families are struggling. That's why PA House Republicans voted to cut taxes on electricity and put real money back in ratepayers' pockets.

PA House Republicans have introduced legislation that would suspend the gas tax, but House Democrats refuse to take it up for a vote. Georgia’s gas tax was suspended. Indiana implemented a gas tax holiday. Utah has reduced its gas tax and Kentucky’s statewide gas tax reduction expired near the beginning of June.

Every budget presents challenges, and this year was no exception. The 2026-27 budget achieves a balance by prioritizing fiscal responsibility while meeting the needs of Pennsylvania’s citizens.

The @PATreasurer vault in Harrisburg safeguards nearly 500 unclaimed military decorations. By law, military medals are never auctioned or liquidated, and are kept until they are returned to the rightful owners or their families. Recently, Rep. Nelson got to accompany Sgt. George Pershing's surviving family to claim his Croix de Guerre, a prestigious award he earned for his efforts in the liberation of France during WWII.

Budget wins and fiscal responsibility are often defined by what was prevented from being included. PA House Republicans were instrumental in stopping a lot of bad policy.

Higher-than-expected revenues prove that Republican-led policies from prior budgets are working. Now we must build on that progress and drive the economic growth Pennsylvania needs.

We lose nearly $20 million per year from theft of SNAP benefits. Rep. Heffley's newly-passed legislation protects taxpayer dollars and ensure public assistance benefits reach those who truly need them.

Another House Republican proposal is now law. Rep. Cooper's legislation aimed at helping school districts delay school start times has been included in 2026-27 education code. This is not a mandate. Instead, it gives school districts the flexibility to make this change if they choose.

PASSED ✅: Rep. Nelson's 1286 gives hotel, lodging, and short-term rental employees the tools they need to identify warning signs, report suspicious activity, and help protect victims from human trafficking. "Making certain those who work in hotels and restaurants know what to look for, we can help those being victimized in this heinous criminal enterprise."

While not perfect, the 2026/27 state budget invests in workforce development, career and technical education and economic competitiveness. House Republicans also successfully blocked a number of tax increases and protected the nationally recognized EITC scholarship program.

PASSED UNANIMOUSLY: Rep. Benninghoff's legislation reforms the ignition interlock system, expands online and in-person services at PennDOT, and eliminates delays, all while maintaining strong safeguards that keep impaired drivers off our roads.

Pennsylvania's future depends on economic growth. This budget invests in the things that matter, like career and technical education, which will help over 17,000 students waiting for opportunities that lead to family-sustaining jobs. It also avoids the crippling tax increases that would drive jobs, businesses, and families out of our Commonwealth. We need to keep building on the House Republican pro-growth policies from last year's budget so we can continue to build our economy and create opportunities for the next generation.

Today’s budget is a reasonable compromise. It reins in spending compared to the governor’s original proposal while making meaningful investments in career and technical education, mental health, infrastructure, and public safety. Just as importantly, it builds on the pro-growth policies we fought for last year that are already delivering results: Stronger revenues, energy reforms, and permitting improvements that have put PA in a better fiscal position than many expected. PA’s future depends on continuing to grow our economy, attract investment, and create jobs to keep moving the Commonwealth in the right direction.
