I used to love it when friends' parents would give me a lift home after cubs and I could sit in the luggage area of an estate car. Ultimate joy. It's a real shame that kids today won't ever get that experience.

Today is Bill Oddie's 85th birthday. He's an oldie, but a Goodie. Even if you dismiss The Goodies and I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again as puerile, infantile, tee-hee-nicky-nacky-noo humour which others grow out of, you can't deny he's put more joy into the world than most of us.

Was talking to people at work today about a certain other match England played against Norway and the commentator afterwards. Blank looks. Realised that match was 45 years ago. None of them had been born. Went to lay down in a darkened room.

@bushontheradio Fractured my thumb when I fell climbing over seats at Pride Park - because I was in the wrong row. Managed to drive back from Derby to Reading (my passenger assisted with the handbrake and some gear changes). Drove myself to hospital to get it x-rayed and ended up in plaster.

Seeing these places through the eyes of our four kids has made me see them all over again. They notice everything I’d usually miss, they make me slow down, and make tour life feel more like home. Having Lu and the kids out here with me is the greatest blessing. I feel incredibly lucky.
