Part 3 of Surviving on Four Buckets is now live This episode analyses water insecurity as a constraint on household livelihoods and local development, extending beyond domestic consumption to the material conditions required for food production, income generation, and nutritional security. Drawing on residents’ accounts, it examines efforts to cultivate vegetables as a strategy to offset rising food costs and strengthen household resilience and shows how the truck-and-tank system effectively forecloses such practices by rendering water availability irregular, insufficient, and difficult to allocate to productive uses. Watch part 3: pari.org.za/watch-survivin… Video produced by: @Hlatse_r, PARI Ntokozo Ndhlovu, PARI #johannesburgwater #watercrisis #joburgwatercrisis

Roundtable | Civil society organisations contesting for local government elections: possibilities and limitations The roundtable provides a space for discussing civil society responses to the crises in the City of Johannesburg, where we see a practical intervention of civil society in the local government political crisis through participating in elections as political parties. With local government elections set for 2026, debates and trends concerning the participation of CSOs in elections are particularly relevant. pari.org.za/pari-urban-cri… Participants: - Tessa Dooms - Peter Monethe - Simphiwe Zwane Chair: - @mazibukokjara 26 March, 1:00–3:00pm Register to join in person: forms.gle/j8M5UtUwEvSATD… or to attend online: rebrand.ly/tm0ndyl @GCR_Observatory @SWOPinstitute
