Feb. 10, 2026: Palm Beach County Emergency Management conducted a nuclear power plant emergency tabletop at the EOC.62 personnel from 25 agencies participated, coordinating with 9 counties, the State EOC & the utility.

🌀🌧️ Hurricane & Flooding Awareness Day It’s not just about the wind. 🌊 Water is the biggest threat—nearly 90% of hurricane-related deaths are caused by flooding or storm surge. ⚠️ Tropical storms can still cause flooding, tornadoes, and serious impacts.

🌪️ Tornado & Thunderstorm Awareness Day South Florida averages 11 tornadoes each year often with little warning. ⚠️ Watch = Be alert 🚨 Warning = Take shelter immediately Know how to get alerts. Have a safe place ready. Even minutes can save lives. #SevereWeatherAwareness

⚡ If you hear thunder, go indoors. Lightning can strike miles away from a storm. Wait 30 minutes after the last thunder before heading back outside.

We will continue to receive weather forecast information from the National Weather Service and will open shelters and/or warming centers as needed throughout the next several days as a period of unseasonably cold weather moves into South Florida.

🚨 Did You Know? Most disasters are local emergencies—often affecting neighborhoods, not the entire country. Neighbors are often the first help before responders arrive. Being prepared at home and in your community saves lives and speeds recovery.

On January 7, 2026, the Public Safety Department participated in the Alliance of Delray’s Get to Know Palm Beach County Expo. As a collaborative effort, we shared information from various divisions within the community. The Expo was a success as we targeted more that 300 people.
