Today, #SIMEW2026 is kicking off the four-day field trip in Kirkland Lake 📍 A municipality in Northern Ontario with a rich history of gold mining and exploration. Along the way, they stopped at the Temagami BIF to explore one of the region’s classic rock units.

Today, S-IMEW participants stood inside one of Earth’s most remarkable geological features, the Sudbury Basin. A meteor impact crater formed 1.85 billion years ago! The cohort explored one of the world’s richest mining regions for nickel, copper, and precious metals. #SIMEW2026
