In east China's Huangshan, the origin of famous tea varieties Huangshan Maofeng, Taiping Houkui and Qimen Black Tea, Chinese-style tea drink has become a new fashion in recent years.
Wang Sun, who set up the Demingshe tea ceremony vocational school in Huangshan City, has led the research and promotion of Chinese-style tea drink since 2021.
Appealing to young people's needs for healthy lifestyle, tea drink brands which combine tea and traditional Chinese medicines have become popular among youngsters.

A humanoid robot is learning to pick tender tea leaves under the guidance of workers at a West Lake Longjing tea plantation in Hangzhou, east China’s Zhejiang Province. With AI recognition models and algorithms, the robot is capable of identifying and locating leaves that meet harvesting standards.

China will allow the import of coffee beans from African countries that have established diplomatic relations with China under zero-tariff treatment, provided they comply with relevant laws and regulations, the General Administration of Customs (GAC) announced on May 20.
The policy, set to take effect on July 20, 2026, follows China's decision to grant zero-tariff treatment to imports from 53 African countries with established diplomatic ties from May 1 this year.

Yiwu, in east China’s Zhejiang Province, is home to the world’s largest wholesale market for small commodities. In its 24-hour rhythm, the city pulses with the energy and innovation of what is often called “the world’s supermarket.”
Before dawn, the market is already buzzing with preparation. AI digital hosts livestream in 36 languages around the clock, promoting products to buyers worldwide, while workers pack orders and rail-sea intermodal trains depart loaded with parcels bound for global destinations.
By daytime, deals are sealed on the trading floor. Foreign merchants collect their goods, as robotic dogs patrol the market, carrying out fire safety inspections and anomaly detection.

On May 20, many places across China saw a surge in marriage registrations. At the marriage registration service center in Beijing’s Haidian district, 90-year-old Zhang Weiyu and 88-year-old Liu Yichun came to apply for a replacement marriage certificate.
Both are retired employees of the Aerospace Information Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. They married in 1963 and have spent more than 60 years together. The two had known each other since high school. After graduating from college, they met again through work and have been together ever since.
“I’m so happy today because I see so many young people here, full of vitality,” Zhang said.

May 22 marks the International Day for Biological Diversity. China has reported a continued recovery trend in several rare and endangered species, according to the National Forestry and Grassland Administration:
- Three newborn Hainan gibbons were recorded in 2025, bringing the total population to 44 individuals across seven groups. It is now the only gibbon population in the world showing sustained growth.
- The population of Asian elephants in southwest China’s Yunnan has shown significant growth, reaching nearly 400 individuals.
- Abies beshanzuensis, a rare fir species, has increased from just three known plants when it was discovered in 1963 to more than 4,000 today.
- Paphiopedilum spicerianum, an orchid species discovered in Pu’er, southwest China’s Yunnan Province in 2003 with only 10 plants, has now grown to over 200 individuals.
