The community fridge project in oakland is doing great work to fight food insecurity through the supply of fresh and organic food. If you have the means, consider helping out and donating!

Oakland’s growing food insecurity problem is getting worse. The pandemic exposed how significantly disproportionate the problem is for BIPOC communities, increasing the number of our neighbors without access to affordable, healthy foods.

@precatlady Hi Kate, we get this question a lot. The fridges are more full on the weekends and empty very quickly during the weekdays. Right now all of the fridges need food equally. We do post updates on our insta story about which fridges are particularly empty on any given day :)

2/3 We don’t want people who visit our fridges to be gambling on whether the food they’re eating will be safe to eat. We also try to comply with food safety guidelines so that we don’t put the entire project at risk of getting shut down. 2/3
