@spacedoutsmiles @KieranRose7 Totally! So many myths about PECS, and people training others when they've not sat the training themselves. Bit of a chinese whispers type thing. Implemented correctly it works well, it doesn't suit all people with communication difficulties, we would never claim that.

@PECS_UK @KieranRose7 Aye. How it’s suppose to work and how it’s used can be two different thinks. In the right context, it rocks. Misused and in the wrong context it can appear helpful while being very harmful :(

@spacedoutsmiles @KieranRose7 NEVER remove a symbol from a PECS book! Instead you teach the concept of 'wait' or 'unavalible', the same you would with your own child if they were asking for something that they currently can't have.

@KieranRose7 A huge factor is who controls what’s available. I worked with a SEN school who implemented a child’s ’diet’ by removing all the non healthy food items from thier PECS book so they couldn’t ask for ‘bad’ things. That’s not the way to do it. That’s an abuse of power & not useful
