@RafiInterfaith Hey @RafiInterfaith. Thanks for the shout-out and for your incredible work and advocacy. For unhoused folks who live in encampments, or sleep rough, without access to running water, too few City water trucks and no dedicated cooling centres, this is the very least we can do.

Actual question: if @cityoftoronto is piloting six 'Cleaner Air Spaces' to address poor air quality due to wildfires, why can't these spaces be opened more broadly during extreme weather events, like today's heat warning? We need 24/7 extreme weather spaces.

16 yrs volunteering yesterday was the hardest day physically for me to be outside doing outreach & that includes ice storms & extreme cold. Community members I encountered were physically depleted, having issues breathing & barely hanging on. There's no reprieve from this heat 1/

There are no cooling centres with attendant care, health care or support. They were cancelled several years ago and replaced with a heat relief network that includes many inaccessible places eg. Shopping malls with no seating and unwelcoming security….3

Working with community members, @TOPublicHealth and Toronto Water, we've made both HTO To Go water trailers available to help everyone stay healthy and safe during the heat wave. Today, one is near Queen and Sherbourne and the other is near Yonge and Dundas.

This week's #heatwave could be deadly for #unhoused residents in #Toronto if they can't keep hydrated. With the help of @Diana_C_McNally and her fundraiser, along with everyone who has contributed and our amazing partners, we're delivering water across TO all summer! Thank you!

@Diana_C_McNally We are just incredibly grateful to @Diana_C_McNally and every single person who has donated to this cause. As Diana says, water is an emergency health intervention in a deadly #heatwave and you are ensuring our unhoused neighbours can keep hydrated. Thank you.

The city also has no plan to ensure hydration for unsheltered Torontonians. For years, I've pressed the city for more access to running and potable water, yet every year I'm forced to hand out wasteful bottled water. Please donate so I can do this: gofundme.com/f/water-for-un…

A note that while 'cleaner air' spaces are a thoughtful addition to Toronto's climate infrastructure, we don't have Emergency Cooling Centres that are activated during heat alerts. Unhoused people outdoors have no 24/7 options to escape the deadly heat. thestar.com/news/gta/clean…

Thank you @Diana_C_McNally and everyone for helping us get water to our unhoused neighbours across Toronto and Peel. We're dreading this heatwave and its unequal impact. If we all had safe, affordable, housing, none of this would be needed.
Diana Chan McNally@DianaCMcNally

Since 2020, I've relied on donated water from @PFoodchain to keep people healthy. Without ready access to running water — and more people outdoors die in the heat than in the cold — these donations have literally saved lives. We can't distribute water without your support!

City data shows that Toronto turned away an average of 273 people a day from shelters during the month of June, a record high for a city struggling to provide for its homeless population. trib.al/MkIPVXG

Heat Alert for this week! Please check on vulnerable neighbours. Almost all of @tngcommunityTO housing has air conditioning. And we have two cooling spaces for tenants that need them during heat alerts. Essential for the future!
