Thank you to Sgt. Traylor, Sgt. Jones and MCpl. Morgan for representing the agency at St. John Evangelist School’s career day this week. The Department is appreciative of these officers for shining a light on correctional careers and supporting the youth.

PGDOC staff love career days because it’s an opportunity for us to dispel some of the myths surrounding jails and show that being a correctional officer can be a fruitful and versatile career.

Director Clark represented DOC at tonight’s Public Safety Town Hall where he spoke with members of the community and dispelled some common myths about correctional facilities. The event was hosted by Council Members Fisher and Blegay at Surrattsville High School.

Moving Forward Ministries, the church inside the jail, hosted an Easter worship service for the incarcerated population. County officials and local church leaders were also in attendance. Thank you to @PGCTV for covering this worship service.

Today’s throwback Thursday is dedicated to CELT Class 2006-1, who recently celebrated its 20-year anniversary with a brunch. They are still living by their class motto of “Straighten up flight right only the strong survive”. Congratulations to all the members of CELT 2006-1.

Following the screening, writer and producer Justin Lee, along with cast members Clarence Johnson, Marcus Adams, and Keith Gaffney-Bey, engaged the juveniles in a thought-provoking discussion that encouraged reflection on the film’s themes and their own life experiences.

Incarcerated individuals in the juvenile unit recently watched the film “Turning Point” as part of their English class curriculum. The lesson emphasized character development and explored how life events can shape personal growth and transformation.

Our Crisis Intervention Stress Management Program held a fundraiser where staff members could order breakfast sandwiches and fruit for pickup or delivery within the facility. The fundraiser was a success and left the hallways smelling delicious for hours.

Prince George’s County’s Crisis Intervention Training group recently visited the facility for a tour. The CIT training aims to teach law enforcement officers deescalation techniques and explain the relation between people’s behavior and their mental health.

In honor of Women’s History Month, this week’s throwback photo is dedicated to the women of CELT Class 2006-1. As of March 6, this class celebrated 20 years with PGDOC. Shoutout to all the members of CELT 2006-1 and congratulations on 20 years!

The Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Office sent their administrative staff over to the jail for a tour. Not only were they able to tour the facility, but the Sheriff’s Office personnel were able to put faces to names for a lot of the people they communicate with on the daily.

Thank you to these officers for representing DOC and thank you to Gaywood Elementary School for including the Department of Corrections in this event.

Captain Dixon, Sergeant Hand, Sergeant Traylor and Master Corporal Morgan represented DOC. They explained the importance of the youth listening and taking direction from their parents and teachers, so they can become whatever they want to become when they get older.

PGDOC was asked to participate in the @gaywood_elementary Men Make a Difference Day where positive male role models were invited to talk to students about what good decisions and bad decisions are and the importance of making good decisions.
