The possibility of a large-scale leak of a government database aside -- everyone agrees that can be a very, very bad thing, assuming that "leak" characterization is accurate -- it is profoundly disturbing the way it appears that Alberta government agencies are trying to railroad Alberta separation activists and proponents. Glad this guy is getting good advice. The nature of his politics alone pretty much guarantees that overreach and dirty tricks will be considered fair game by some. For the record, I don't know enough about what's going on to state anything other than it looks like the Alberta sovereignty movement is turning into a bitter, hotly contested shit show that will include several legal battles. If the Alberta government doesn't handle this in an even-handed manner, they will surely create many more proponents of Alberta separation, which is already apparently a growing movement.

Shitty parenting strikes again. In Arkansas, a 3-year-old boy miraculously walked away unharmed after climbing out of his mother’s overturned car following a high-speed police chase. According to Arkansas State Police, 23-year-old Thalia Jones refused to pull over for troopers before officers used a PIT maneuver, causing the vehicle to roll over into a field. Video from the scene shows the toddler climbing out of the wreckage and running toward officers just moments after the crash. Jones was arrested and charged with reckless driving, fleeing, child endangerment, speeding, and driving with a suspended license. Source: LiveLeak

13-month-old Preston Davey died just four months after being adopted by a gay couple in Blackpool, UK. Former teacher Jamie Varley, 37, and his partner John McGowan-Fazakerley, 32, rushed the toddler to hospital in cardiac arrest, claiming he had drowned in the bathtub. A post-mortem examination revealed around 40 injuries, including fractures, extensive bruising, a human bite mark, and signs of sexual abuse. Prosecutors say the child actually died from smothering. Police later found photos and videos of the alleged abuse on the men’s phones. Both defendants deny all charges. The trial is ongoing at Preston Crown Court.
