Thank you kindly Dr. @NOIweala for the unforgettable evening, and for your trust and support. I am extremely grateful to have received the inaugural Gender Equality Pioneer Award for my research. It will always be close to my heart (and in my office).
Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala@NOIweala

The @WTO Gender Unit is hosting the Youth Trade Summit on Gender, bringing young male and female researchers from around the world. An important highlight yesterday was the presentation of the first Gender Equality Pioneer Award to a researcher from an institution and to a researcher from a multilateral agency. Congratulations to @judfabianjud of the University of Ottawa and Simonetta Zarrilli of @UNCTAD for being the first prize winners and such role models for the young researchers. Delighted to support this alongside H.E Secretary Xiana Méndez Bértolo of Spain.

@snlester Is there necessarily a divide? Wouldn't promoting green technology, for example, achieve goals associated with both?

I don't know who is best positioned to do this kind of study, but I want to see an academic analysis of the progressive divide over prioritizing climate change vs prioritizing industrial policy. Who are the key players (lobbyists and thought leaders)? What are the main arguments?

Great piece from @bhaggart ... understanding values trade-offs (in platform governance and elsewhere) can open the way to productive discussion of the best way forward.

In this piece, @AmyKaram asks: What are the implications for economic security and global competitiveness of Canada’s not being a leading #5G player in its own right? What does this say about our national performance on innovation? cigionline.org/articles/canad…

How should we understand the relationship between national security and economic security in Canada? How can we facilitate a broad-based conversation about it?

New from @PGoff1 and myself: as we re-imagine national security in today's technological and geopolitical context, economic security is very much front and centre in considerations. We unpack what this means. cigionline.org/publications/e…

As an early-month birthday girl, just stored my new Ontario QR code proof of vaccination on my phone and printed off a hard copy for when phone is dead/lost. Except... hard copy is 8.5x11. I can't laminate that size to fit in my wallet/tuck into a passport holder?!?! *sighs*

@snlester Why is there such resistance to the waiver? Over 100 countries say they need it, if only to speed up a process that might be possible under existing rules. Is it bc the waiver will set a bad precedent? Is it the potential costs to pharma? Trying to understand.

Instead of focusing on the waiver, I would be specific about what specific actions you want to take and make the case for them.

I still don't think you need a TRIPS waiver for this. What you need is a political commitment by the US, EU etc. to support production in all countries able to produce the vaccines. I guess asking for a waiver is a proxy for that commitment, but it may not be the best strategy.
Global Trade Watch@PCGTW

The #TRIPSWaiver is key to increasing global production of vaccines and treatments! Tell your representative to urge @POTUS to join the 100+ other countries supporting the waiver here👉 bit.ly/3vIpTso
