Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation (DDWS) held a National Level Review Meeting with Deputy Commissioners/ District Magistrates/ Collectors on Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 and Solid Waste Management Rules 2026 under Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) Kamal Kishore Soan, Additional Secretary & Mission Director, National Jal Jeevan Mission outlined that JJM covers approximately 5.91 lakh villages, 2.62 lakh Gram Panchayats, over 16 lakh habitations and over 19.41 crore rural households, benefiting nearly 96 crore people State-level review meetings with District Collectors are being planned to strengthen JJM implementation. The national review meeting was followed by a presentation by Smt. Swati Meena Naik, JS-NJJM covering JJM 2.0 reforms, transition from JJM 1.0 to JJM 2.0, HGJ certification, Jal Arpan framework, forthcoming #NationalWaterAwards, and strengthening dist.-level governance mechanisms

Sh. Kamal Kishore Soan, AS&MD-NJJM highlighted the scale and magnitude of JJM covering all rural households and stressed the critical role of District Collectors in achieving saturation and sustainable service delivery goals by December 2028. @PMOIndia @CRPaatil @HMOIndia

In his opening remarks, Secretary-DDWS emphasized that under JJM 2.0, the focus has now moved beyond infrastructure creation towards reliable service delivery, sustainability, community ownership, and regular district-level monitoring through District Water & Sanitation Missions.
