Find the seismometer this afternoon with @NERCscience @QUADRATdtp interns Szymon and Dave, uninstalling one of the PICTS seismometers near Finzean!

Lovely sunny spring day to visit a couple of seismometers in Angus and get some data off them! Was really cool to hear the strange call of the lapwings as they circled overheqd at the Glen Clova site

Dawn to dusk* @PICTS_project seismometer servicing today with @seismodave! 5 sites in Angus and Perthshire - all quite dry and batteries not as bad as expected (but still switched them for fully charged ones)! *Not to hard to achieve when sunrise is 08:41 and sunset is 16:00

Day 4 of the #30DayMapChallenge, with the theme of green - the start of plotting the geological map for the region around the @PICTS_project, with some green metamorphic rocks. Geological data from @BritGeoSurvey, with some wrangling in python to make it work with @gmt_dev 5!

Fantastically sunny autumn day for @seismo_amy and @0410_ahmed to visit the sites on the Aberdeenshire line, with a chance to enjoy the views from Cairn o' Mount!

It was the turn of the seismometers in Angus to be visited today by @seismo_amy and @BlackwellAlice3 - lots of data downloaded to help us understand the Earrh beneath our feet!

After a bit of a rainy start, it eventually turned into a sunny day for @seismo_amy and @BlackwellAlice3 collecting the latest batch of data from the Perthshire line of PICTS seismometers

Data gathered off two more seismometers today! Unfortunately the one near Finzean needed to be relevelled but we made up for it with a tasty lunch in the @FinzeanFarmShop! Great to have Emma, a @QUADRATdtp UG research experience intern joining the fieldwork!

Bit more Scottish weather today ☔ but we had umbrellas to the rescue to help us keep the laptop dry while downloading data and some pretty flowers to look at @Guardswellfarm

First day in the field picking up the first lot of data! The first couple of stations seemed to be working great, just a bit of gardening needed to stop grass growing over the solar panels. The final site had some power issues, but hopefully we've improved the set up now!

The @PICTS_project data now has a network code from FSDN: 9J! We'll be heading out into the field next week to pick up data from most of the instruments and look forward to sharing what they've picked up over the first few months! fdsn.org/networks/detai…

Seismometers that we deployed last week near Pitlochry, Perthshire and Tarland, Aberdeenshire as part of the project picked up the waves that had travelled through the Earth from the M6.8 #earthquake in Argentina yesterday, over 10,000km away! @BGSseismology

A second real time temporary station as part @PICTS_project going in, this one near Tarland, Aberdeenshire.

This is a new temporary station we’ve deployed east of Pitlochry as part of @PICTS_project. The data is already coming into our servers, but it may take a few days before it shows up on our website.

@sludgebeast @seismo_amy @Heather52100 @sophiakibaker A couple of the stations (yet to be deployed) will be live streamed and public, the rest we have to manually pick up the data (probably in June and October in the first instance) - the plan is for that to be public in ~2-3 years

Quite a bit of digging and a lot of mud but some scenic views of Clachnaben as @seismo_amy @Heather52100 and @sophiakibaker deployed another seismometer on the Finzean Estate today!
