Check some snapshots from #samplings in the salt pans of Kalloni and Polichnitos in #Lesvos island. The #red color of some alopecia is evident due to the overproduction of β-carotene by #Dunaniella (β-carotene acts as an #antioxidant oxidant to cope with the huge salinity)

@PILOUS_Project aims to isolate, cultivate and optimize the growth of green-alga #Dunaliella strains from #Greek salt pans and produce β-carotene. @PILOUS_Project unites researchers from 3 different schools of @Aristoteleio (@BiologyAuth, School of Chemistry, and @geoponiki)
