@moraltourism @GenTXer2 When you have the chance, listen to this album. You'll be glad you did. It's their best by a thousand miles, imho.

@GenTXer2 @PKC1963 Not super familiar with this one. I know their hits, but none from this album. I had to look it up. Which brought another surprise: they have a TON of albums. And they released one as recently as 2022.

@4fHepcat @GenTXer2 Not sure how you define broke, U2 started building a following in the US with 'War', but that kind of stalled with the release of 'The Unforgettable Fire.' It wasn't until 'The Joshua Tree' that U2 became a household name in the US.

@GenTXer2 @PKC1963 The perception we had in the UK was that they had broke America, like U2. Especially, with their Live Aid appearance in Philadelphia. And of course, the song, The American 😉

@4fHepcat @GenTXer2 No such tribalism in the US over these two bands. We save that for Beatles vs Stones and Billy Joel vs Elton John.

@GenTXer2 @PKC1963 It was so tribal back then. I was in the U2 camp. Hated Simple Minds. Not that I had ever listened to them!

@Magical_Drone @GenTXer2 This is the album that made me a fan. 'Upon the Catwalk' and 'Waterfront' are two of the best songs in their entire catalog. Great album, and if I hadn't been working in a record store when it was released, I probably never would have heard it.

@4fHepcat @GenTXer2 This album was released the year before The Breakfast Club movie came out. Trust me, very few people in the US even heard of Simple Minds before that movie and their song from that movie, 'Don't You Forget About Me' came out.

@GenTXer2 @PKC1963 They were nearly as big as U2 at that time. I wouldn’t class it as a lesser known album. Certainly, from a Brit and European perspective.
