Plantation Key School

Today, the State Board of Education honored two exceptional students, Monae Hylor and Mathias Lumbi. Monae completed the ACCESS program at The College of the Florida Keys to develop career preparation skills while building independence and self-confidence. She is now pursuing a bachelor’s degree. Mathias, a fourth grader at Poinciana Elementary School in @keysschools, was diagnosed with leukemia in 2023. Throughout months of treatment, he never lost his commitment to learning. Recently, Mathias proudly rang the bell to celebrate his remission. Their resilience and dedication serve as a powerful reminder that through hard work and determination, success is always within reach.

Thank you to our literacy coach, @horsley_monica, for delivering such a valuable professional learning session today! Immersed in Verse from @UncomplicateEd’s PD in a Box gave our teachers powerful strategies to use poetry year-round for vocab, fluency, and comprehension!

It's National Get Caught Reading Month! A student who reads 20 minutes per day gets exposed to 1.8 million words per year. Daily reading increases fluency, builds vocabulary, enhances reading comprehension and improves writing skills. Kick back with a book and get caught reading!
