New paper in @Ecology_Letters. We show that bats 🦇 fatten predictably in cold climates, but also in warm climates with strong rainfall seasonality. This relationship is also influenced by interactions with sex and study year | doi.org/10.1111/ele.70… | @westsyduhie

@alsnothome Thanks Al. That’s what I’m using at the moment, which I wasn’t sure if was the best method or not. I was trying to follow a microbiome community analysis paper which used ANCOM-BC, but that is just for microbiome/genetic data, not general ecology data

@PLTaggart SIMPER? It will give you species contributing to withing group similarity and among group dissimilarity. It is not a formal test like PERMANOVA but a useful descriptive method

After conducting a PERMANOVA to formally test for differences in animal communities, what is the best/most appropriate way to identify and test what specific species are driving community differences? Desert salt lake photo for interest

Gibber pebbles play a vital role in our arid ecosystems, offering a protective blanket to armour hillslopes against erosion + they act like natural mulch, limiting vegetation growth & leading to incredible heterogenous landscapes! Read all about it in this recap by Honours student Ida Gaulke in collaboration with @MonashUni Geomorphology Lab👉 bit.ly/3QcPZil
