Josh Hewitt is back at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), stepping into the role of Equipment Manager for the Rebel football program following a 4 year stint at Brigham Young University (BYU).
During his tenure at BYU, Hewitt was responsible for overseeing equipment logistics and operations for the Cougars’ football program. His work involved managing equipment distribution, maintaining compliance with NCAA regulations, and collaborating closely with coaching staff to enhance player safety and performance.
Certified by the Athletic Equipment Managers Association since 2015, Hewitt’s extensive background includes equipment roles at Fresno State and Central Arkansas. He also worked in professional sports, including a six-year stretch with the NFL’s St. Louis Rams and four years on the grounds crew for Major League Baseball’s Kansas City Royals.
A former football player himself, Hewitt was a four-year starter at NAIA’s Avila University in Kansas City, Missouri, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in sports science in 2012. His family has long-standing involvement in athletic equipment management, his grandfather and father both served as equipment managers for NFL and collegiate teams, and his brother is the Director of Equipment Operations at Fresno State.
As UNLV’s Equipment Manager, Hewitt will oversee all facets of equipment operations, including policy development and logistics.
