Today along with TUC colleagues I attended a roundtable meeting with Home Office Minister Alex Norris. I raised specific issues in relation to the issues surrounding Skilled Worker visas where we won a temporary pause on the salary threshold. IPSA chairman Richard Lloyd said the role of an MP had "evolved", with parliamentarians "dealing with higher levels of complex casework, and abuse and intimidation". It is expected that by the end of this Parliament an MPs salary will rise to £110,000. Prison Officers are demanding the same treatment as MPs when it comes to pay.

Prison Officers are demanding the same treatment as MPs when it comes to pay.

So IPSA decided that MPs faced intimidation and abuse and more case work in their constituency to justify giving a 5 per cent pay rise. Prison Officer grades should then get a 50 per cent pay rise on those standards as they face far more abuse and intimidation than any MP or is it ok to abuse Prison staff. I have no problem with MPs getting a pay award above inflation but so should every other worker. Steve Gillan Gen Sec

The @POAUnion is calling on the UK Government to reintroduce a 2nd Employment Rights Bill and to reinstate The Right To Strike For Prison Officers - banning such a basic human right is the action of repressive regimes

The Pay Review Body has informed us that they have submitted their recommendations to Government. The POA are not privy to what is in their recommendations but we hope Government do not take an eternity in announcing those recommendations on whether they are accepted or not.
