📅 On 24 Feb 2026, the POLYNICES Project was presented at the #Horizon4Photonics Brokerage Event. 🎤 Dr. Dominic Schulz (Fraunhofer HHI) introduced POLYNICES’ work on polymer-based photonic integration enabling heterogeneous systems with Si₃N₄ chiplets, InP components, THz antennas, and an electro-optic PCB motherboard. 🤝 Great discussions with the European photonics community.

📄 𝗔 𝗗𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰 𝗪𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝗻-𝗗𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗘𝘅𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘅 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗲𝘅 🤝 Our partners at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (Grupo de Optoelectronica y Tecnología Láser (GOTL)) present a new dielectric rod waveguide (DRW) method to study materials at mm-wave and THz frequencies. 🚀 𝗣𝗢𝗟𝗬𝗡𝗜𝗖𝗘𝗦 𝗮𝘁 𝗘𝗖𝗜𝗢 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 At the European Conference on Integrated Optics (ECIO0252) in Cardiff, our colleague Jessica César Cuello (@uc3m) presented the poster “𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗰 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀” during Poster Session I at the Centre for Student Life. ✨ The work demonstrates how two optical pulse interleavers were monolithically integrated and tested on a single PIC, showing strong potential for next-generation high-speed optical systems. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀: 📡 Frequency multiplication from 20 → 40 GHz 💡 Extinction ratios above 20 dB (up to 26 dB) ⚙️ Tuning range >15 GHz with integrated phase modulators 📏 Compact, robust, and scalable design These advances highlight how monolithic #PIC solutions can combine performance, flexibility and scalability, central to the vision of @POLYNICES_EU Project in enabling future optical communications and signal processing. 💡 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗰 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 As we add more advanced features to photonic chips, we often need to combine multiple PICs from different platforms. This improves performance but makes alignment and signal routing harder, which can lead to more losses and lower efficiency. Packaging is another big challenge. Right now, building hybrid PICs and connecting them to electronics usually happens in separate steps. With many PICs and components, traditional wire bonding becomes complex and expensive. 📊 Packaging alone can account for over 75% of a photonic module’s cost. Cutting this is crucial for making photonics more efficient and affordable. 🚀 The @POLYNICES_EU Project is tackling these challenges, aiming for faster, cheaper, and more powerful photonic systems.
