If he wants to pretend to get upset about cartoon violence in the face of live-streamed daily massacre, don’t agree with him, ridicule him!

I agree that the use of the clawed hand here is absolutely a canard. It’s in appropriate. I however, completely disagree that we should treat Grant and Kenaston as a specifically Jewish neighborhood. Secondly, it’s not fair to ask anti-genocide protesters to take a day off, holiday or not, until the genocide is over.

Winnipeg is a city with serious social issues and, like the rest of the Global North, climate issues. But our council is unserious about even remotely tackling any of these. It’s just criminalize the poor; shovel more money to cops & developers & construction; repeat. /4

This person’s blistering condemnation of civic priorities could be applied to any Canadian city at this moment. Winnipeg: 500 empty buildings while people freeze to death in bus shelters. We *could* expropriate these properties but the City values investors over people.

We live in a time of compounding crises and our civic governance is wholly unserious about combatting any of them. It’s true of every level of governance, but the civic level is where we actually have some levers, it’s just that we’ve decided only developers/drivers/rich matter.

Transit is one of the areas a city can actually make a difference in mitigating climate change, but Winnipeg continues to defund/not fund solutions to problems (transit, community programs, harms reduction) while simultaneously overfunding the problems (roads, police).
