Last night I was honored to be recognized by City & State New York in the 2019 "Power of Diversity: Black 100" list as one of the top most influential people in New York State's black community.

Today we passed the 2020 Suffolk County budget with bi-partisan support as a result of opening the Operating Budget Working Group meetings to the public. I commend my colleagues for their efforts to make this happen.

The Suffolk County R.I.S.E. (Restrict Information regarding Salary and Earnings) Act went into effect on June 30, prohibiting employers in Suffolk County from inquiring about a job applicant’s wage or salary history.

“The state’s renewed and expanded Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprises program is an opportunity to encourage and empower a growing number of women and minority-owned businesses in Suffolk County to take advantage of the economic opportunity that exists."

The legislation I have proposed would prohibit employers from asking potential job applicants about their criminal history and eliminates the box on applications that indicate criminal arrests. see the story here: newyork.cbslocal.com/2019/06/05/suf…
