In the original test a greater indication of what the child would choose was how their parents/guardians behaved: if they were constantly being lied to or tricked by the adults in their life, they would take the marshmallow because they assumed the second one was a lie. Generational level of that going on now.

Before rushing to outrage, maybe we should ask if there's a story we don't know. In this case, people who know the man say he's been grieving the loss of his wife and struggling. Sometimes what looks shocking at first glance is actually someone who needs compassion, not condemnation.
We'd all benefit from a little more grace and a little less assumption.
