The story is that the drastic change in spending suggests the team is for sale ? I would argue that 1) a couple pending contract extensions will change the argument quickly and drastically, plus 2) everybody in the NFL is clearing up space for 2027…a talent rich year where extra 💰💰💰 is going to be helpful.
English

@TPPSkol @Charley_Walters @PioneerPress All the cited moves were solid football decisions. They make the team more competitive… which I suppose…makes the team more “sellable”. But I lived thru the mccombs era. There is no comparison between the two Owners. The story is birdcage clickbait.
English

"It’s beginning to look as if Vikings ownership now could be mirroring Twins ownership, which has sought to sell its team."
Writes @Charley_Walters from @PioneerPress, he continues...
"If the Wilfs, who curiously still haven’t named a permanent general manager since firing Kwesi Adofo-Mensah last January, were to sell the Vikings today, they could get between $8 billion and $9 billion."
Walters cites slashing payroll with the cuts of Allen and Hargrave as well as the trade of Greenard as one reason they may be prepping for a sale.
Add into it the draft picks and potential to replace higher priced veterans like Brian O'Neill and the general manager who has yet to be named, Walters alludes to the Vikings walking a similar line to former owner Red McCombs and current ownership of the Twins.

@Sasha_Screens It’s an HBO travesty they didn’t get their 4th season to complete the story. Every bit as good as Sopranos. The podium for Best Shows Ever… Sopranos/Deadwood/ Wire.
English

@realspeckzo The Wire is one of 10 best drama series of All Time! #omariswhistling4u
English

@_motherslug I agree. Wire stronger too. But Deadwood was so cleverly constructed, an authentic western with R-rated Shakespearean dialogue #Swearegen

@vikingzfanpage @JFowlerESPN Isn’t every team’s every draft “coach heavy”?
English

People around the league thought the Minnesota #Vikings had a very “coach-heavy draft,” per @JFowlerESPN.
“"How much influence did Brian Flores have [on the selections]?" one AFC exec asked. "It felt like a lot. Felt like a coach-heavy draft."

English

@jackviking @Kevins_Right The Saints, Jets and Fins will be ecstatic to hear more about your “there’s aways another cap” model. Yes, the debt can be pushed into the future but the debt always comes due.
English

@PPRPapaPig @Kevins_Right It’s the opposite. There’s always another cap. You actually spend tomorrow’s dollars at today’s prices. With zero interest. Keep gate keeping the Wilfs pocketbook.
English

Vikings not only traded Greenard for a 3rd...but it was one of the last picks in the 3rd...comp pick 3rd which equates to a 4th....meanwhile Eagles had another 3rd round pick at the top of the third.
Just EXTREMELY poor trade value.
"Oh but what about next years third?"
That equates to a 4th as well.
It all boiled down to losing Greenards contract....and the Eagles knew it. The only team that got better was the Eagles.
English

@jackviking @Kevins_Right You must be a congressman? The “kick the can down the road” budget strategy has been the ruin of more than one nfl franchise. Eventually the cap bill comes due. And then it takes multiple years to dig out from those payroll craters.
English

@PPRPapaPig @Kevins_Right The Vikings have 250 million dollars in available cap space over the next two years. They could have created even more by extending Greenard. It only required ownership to fork out the cash. Any team can spend well over the cap every single year. They didn’t want to spend on JG
English

@Superskolfan @DustBaker Invest in ascending assets, cut bait with descending ones. #58 is a great player…when healthy. Under the circumstances , this move is clearly the smart play. How the armchair GM’s (and capologists) don’t see that is interesting.
English

@jackviking @Kevins_Right And I can start a lawnmower, doesn’t mean I can landscape at Augusta. It is such an obvious move I’m shocked there’s any blowback at all.
English

@SeifertESPN Better to unload a season (or 2) early than a season too late. Greenard is a 4 star athlete asking for a 5 star money upgrade. For me, it’s an easy decision to make. Especially with his injury history. The money is better spent filling other holes in the roster.
English

The Jonathan Greenard trade was so jarring that the Vikings felt compelled to say that ownership hadn't ordered financial cuts. Regardless, the team is set to spend ~$100M less on cash payroll in 2026. Draft weekend takeaways here as a GM search looms:

It’s rare that we go outside the county for a @KUSIPPR podcast guest, but some stories are too big to ignore. Mario Luna, 6-2, 295 lbs, started as a freshman at @OLuFootball. That’s impressive …and now for the rest of the story…link: url-shortener.me/LMNB @ElTortaPower

@TheRealForno I’m sure your 4 years experience is solid but…Respectfully, I’m going to go with the NFL’ s best cap man (since the cap was instituted). Anybody can be retained, but at what cost to the team’s future? Let’s revisit our takes in Sept.
English

Been my job for the last 4 years. They absolutely could have made it work if they wanted to. Those quotes imo tell you they didn’t want to

@TheRealForno Brzezinski said. “We've spent a lot of money the last few years, and this spending from a salary-cap standpoint is not sustainable.” But yes, by all means listen to some internet dude.

They absolutely could have, and should have, made it work with Jonathan Greenard
Purple Nurple@nurple_purp
@TheRealForno We could not have made the new contract work with all our impending FAs and everyone knew it. Might as well clear the space now and get value while you can instead of letting him walk in two years especially with his replacement on the roster

English

@PPRPapaPig @Kevins_Right They could easily extend him. They are in great financial shape.
