OpenAI started in 2015 as a non-profit. @elonmusk gave about $45 million. This created big value: unique ideas, talented people, and proprietary work — all meant to advance humanity. But turning it into a for-profit let big investors, employees, and Microsoft take most of that value for themselves, while the real goal of an AI to benefit all of humanity was ignored at the expense of profit. This is how you loot a charity.

You can’t turn a non-profit into a for-profit. Many people, including @elonmusk gave money to build AGI for the benefit of all humanity, not to enrich company leadership. This was a shell game to Sam Altman. Sam created a for-profit subsidiary, then in 2025 converted it into a Public Benefit Corporation. The “nonprofit” was left holding just 20% of the new for-profit entity. The other 80%? Investors, employees, and execs who can now cash out on a company valued in the hundreds of billions.

In the coming days, employers will see a stream of resumes of once-in-a-lifetime quality folks. An important thing to understand is that Epic never lowered our hiring standards as we grew, and the layoff wasn't a performance-based "rightsizing" as companies call it nowadays. It's a sound bet that anyone with Epic Games on their resume is in the top few percent of their discipline.
